Stan Stewart (aka @muz4now) It was their live show that drew me to Kites. I appreciated the songwriting, the collaborative performance, and new release of this album sent me to bandcamp as soon as I got on my mobile afterwards. The musical sounds that people so young create often amazes me. Can't wait to hear what they're up to NEXT! Favorite track: We Are All Going To Die In The Woods.

// let’s take the longer way / maybe soon we’ll find somewhere to stay / where all of my memories are carved away by rain / let’s decide not to dream tonight / they say if you’re caught dreaming then you’ll be labeled soft inside / the tower bells are ringing / who’s to say that i’m still thinking the way i did last year / the brave ones go but i’m still here / now freezing winds are blowing as the forest floats away / i can barely save myself let alone save the world my darling / i still hear the call that day come home son i got something to say / sing the saddest song you know then be on your way / pinecliff forrest screams tonight / i see you burn across the sky / and i wonder why you couldn’t make it through the night / now the tower bells are ringing / who’s to say that i’m still thinking the way i did last year / the brave ones go but i’m still here / now freezing winds are blowing as forest floats away / i can barely save myself let alone save the world my darling / (whoah) / now the tower bells are ringing / who’s to say that i’m still thinking the way i did last year / the brave ones go but i’m still here / now freezing winds are blowing as forest floats away / i can barely save myself let alone save the world my darling //

// please pardon the wait we’ll soon have symmetry / ‘til then we’re cursing our addictions while contemplating the frictions that are few and far between / and now we never get to sleep / because our silhouettes are candle lit and I know that we can handle it we’re straining / it was always raining inside anyway / we’re high and praying that bears carry us away / now we’re thinking / we’re forced to the wall kept on the ball but we’re singing / i’ll still be the merchant who is bringing tectonics in a jar / but now we’re seeing the vista is obstructed by our being / and we can’t be the ones who are seen fleeing from everything we know / we would dream of our escape / telling different stories day to day / we said that we were visionaries always had to say where our final resting place will be / but here we are we’ve fallen short for the last time / we are taken by surprise as they see right through our disguise at the anonymous convention / the day’s upon us we just forgot to mention our last location to the world now we’re lost / but now we’re sinking / we’re forced to the wall kept on the ball but we’re singing / i’ll still be the merchant who is bringing tectonics in a jar / but now we’re seeing the vista is obstructed by our being / and we can’t be the ones who are seen fleeing from everything we know //

// i remember the day we pioneered southwood / and in the conifer plain we were almost dead but our minds were still good and we were just living to stay / while the pack was off screaming and our dark eyes are gleaming / and i promised you baby you wouldn’t have to wait / come on we’re nearing the edge / just ‘cause i’m over my head / know what they couldn’t find us if they wanted to / at a break in this chain we spin on a carousel / when from the base of your brain flew a devilish smile that had stories to tell / and on one autographed page that we kept on believing / left everyone grieving / and we’re squared we’re even on one short seasonal day / come on we’re nearing the edge / just ‘cause i’m over my head / know what its never quite been this quiet here / this one goes out to those girls from fayetteville manlius / please pardon the crane it’s been flying for decades / when the autumn brigade threw uncharted paths through the darkest of shades and i / i’m living to stay / while that pack was off screaming / the pack was off screaming / and it’s over i’m leaving just one reason away / come on we’re nearing the edge / just ‘cause i’m over my head / know what at least we’re home here in the quarry //

// this is a cycle of extraordinary sights / you say we come from the roots of prismed light / there are always telegrams on special boards below / where i’m on this failing fence with nowhere else to go / sleep well helio / the passing time divine will clash with hydras in your eyes / and with the world below / we’ll stammer over pantheons that rest on lunar row / and a singer’s singing low / where wandering radicals hold the only rose / and i’ve made it so / i know / fear not young fauna the eisenhower’s long gone / the road ahead is a pastel spread and crashing towards the dawn / when all the planets rack their tallies for the show / keep your locks and bullets close let those people know / sleep well helio / the passing time divine will clash with hydras in your eyes / and with the world below / we’ll stammer over pantheons that rest on lunar row / and a singer’s singing low / where wandering radicals hold the only rose / and i’ve made it so / i know //

// at the starlite speedway as the yellow light fades / the break-neck pace at which they start their race / it’s a two-stroke motorcade / she has a key pressed to her chest / it’s teeth chew up her skin / a parting gift before he left to give him luck to win / at the starlite speedway / the pit crew celebrates as they come around the last bend / the checkered flag waves as they hurtle through the end / but lo / look at him go through the barricade / the lights are flashing through the night through dust and steam and flame / at the starlite speedway //

Grind 04:20
// i think you’ve had enough tonight / two weeks ago we were in the exact same place / with fuzzy ears and blurry eyes we hear the voices, feel the bass / we’re always lost in another time / we never planned for this to get so rough / two thousand-ten years to get it right / to save our souls is god enough / it sure beats working the grind / i want a piece of the real life / i want a shot at the big lights / it’s either that or be paralyzed / we still charge into the night, the only place that feels right / to stay away from the sunshine, where all our best ideas die / we stick around ‘til they’re closing down / we walk and talk, wasted, out of sight / you’ve got a house across town / i make a move in the bright white moonlight / tandem emotional bombsights / it’s live and learn and love and die / but I’m a renegade tonight / open the doors and let ‘em fly / it sure beats working the grind / i want a piece of the real life / i want a shot at the big lights / it’s either that or be paralyzed / we still charge into the night, the only place that feels right / to stay away from the sunshine, where all our best ideas die //

// in a glade in a glade now, innocent, fingers intertwined / gonna show gonna show you how to live alone on a mountainside / (whoah) let it bloom and watch it grow / you don’t own the land around you / if you burn it down we’ll find you / leave us alone / when they came when they came yeah, with their trucks and saws, baby we were forced to flee / run away run away now, feel the heat / listen to the forest scream / (whoah) strip it bare and watch it snow / (whoah) ‘til the well dries up and then they go / carried away now by our ursine friends, never to be seen again / you don’t own the land around you / if you burn it down we’ll find you / leave us alone //

// it’s kicking harder every day / and this feeling in my stomach is like that feeling in my stomach that i had / several years ago / when i hadn’t really met you but she’s given me an ultimatum / let’s make it a clean break she said / fifteen pounds of pressure in the right place / let’s make it a clean break / fifteen pounds of pressure is all it takes / and i can’t think straight / it’s kicking harder every day / mending bruises over bathroom sinks / trading faces with a man who looks like me / doesn’t he see / that the world around him isn’t very real, it’s just another passing thing / let’s make it a clean break she said / fifteen pounds of pressure in the right place / let’s make it a clean break / fifteen pounds of pressure is all it takes / and i can’t think straight / i’m sitting missing you in an empty crowded room / let’s make it a clean break she said / let’s make it a clean break she said / let’s make it a clean break / fifteen pounds of pressure is all it takes //

// things aren’t making sense, there’s light around me now / i’ve got to get my arms and legs to move somehow / the clock ticks past the hour but there’s no tolling bell / is this the way to heaven or a living hell / an old friend / a new wave / the club kids / the best raves / i’m stock still / my mind roars / above me thirteen floors / things aren’t making sense, there’s light around me now / i’ve got to get my arms and legs to move somehow / the clock ticks past the hour but there’s no tolling bell / is this the way to heaven or a living hell / the leak drips / depletes us / the beat hits / it repeats at us / the fog lifts / the skies clear / we’re still at war, no need to fear / things aren’t making sense, there’s light around me now / i’ve got to get my arms and legs to move somehow / the clock ticks past the hour but there’s no tolling bell / is this the way to heaven or a living hell / lips that quiver, i don’t mind / but please don’t tell me any lies / the devil himself doesn’t make much sense / when he whispers his songs in my ear //

// your matchbook is feeling pretty thin / and you need a light / i hope that you brought enough for me / ‘cuz i’m all out of mine / from the look on your face you’re life’s flashing by / and my vision is swimming, i’m right by your side / if you rewind it i’m leaving / the things we said / cormorants in the sky / they swoop and they dive / casting shadows on our sails and our lines / we’re leaving tonight / leave us alone / from the look on your face you’re life’s flashing by / and my vision is swimming, i’m right by your side / if you rewind it i’m leaving and you’re doing fine / you’re doing fine //

Museums 01:42
// turn away / flash fire’s coming so better start running / i swear you won’t know the man i’m becoming / lose a day / sight was hell but oh the sound was stunning / when we saw that fire start running home / to the only place we know / we were always chasing down / what’s so far above you oh how i loved you / bewildered we’re the only ones around / we were lifted i swear /

// we got time off for good behavior / now we’re seeing where the action is / and i stayed awake til the morning but i never saw it coming / my eyes weren't even open / if that seems like a lie, i can see why / we're not living in the past anymore / we're living in a war / we were born into the middle / but the country couldn't handle us / and all the little dreams inside of me, i refused to believe / 'cause that girl didn't look like me / out here you don't exist without your fame / in the city all the girls start to look the same / so we begin to lose our way / we left in a hurry / 'cause it was strange and sad to see / when it sinks in like a dagger / it gets harder to discover / and your soul just slips away / now we're back in america / where we dream big and we drive drunk / here in america / we look real good 'cause we get lifted up //

// returning that hardcover book to the woman that you stole it from hoping she’ll tell you who it’s by / but her lips are sealed she thought you left town years ago and filled in the gaps with better lines / and i can barely watch as you read she had died two weeks after your encounter / and we take our time making sure we’re keeping busy as her funeral goes by / oh it’s not our problem now / we’re the only ones laughing now / you always knew this was how / this whole thing would play out / we’re the last ones of our kind / those kids who tear up their old photos so that they could tell the rest of the the world why / they were failures by design / and putting people into categories buys the executives some time / and i’m here backstage / taking shots without a chaser hoping it just might replace her / but these days, these hazy days / burn the activist right out of me so i can finally say / oh it’s not our problem now / we’re the only ones laughing now / you always knew this was how / this whole thing would play out / this whole thing would play out / we’re high and praying that bears carry us away //

Maps & Plans 04:38
// wind at our backs away we go / borrowed clothes and hopeful hearts / we’re moving fast singing as we go / oh no you’re a clever one / but the last train left five years ago / and the people all scream hey get with the times kid / see all of the friends we want to see / but we keep it short and move along / we cannot stay we’ve got other places to be / oh no we’re just rolling through / with our maps and plans and souvenirs that you keep praying are gonna be worth something soon / haven’t we been here before / and you knew i could never state my claim when you’d say / good morning mr. general the world is at your feet / i’ve begun to wonder if i should if i should leave it to the proteges / oh no we’re dying in our sleep / i can barely see you standing there in the corner in my dreams / we can’t go home the bank took the house / let out a sigh and down the wine / we’ll start again when the sun comes out / oh no darling follow me / don’t know our way home anyway so toss the map / i’m where i want to be / haven’t we been here before / can’t you see i could never state my claim when you’d say / good morning mr. general the world is at your feet / i’ve begun to wonder if i should if i should leave it to the proteges / oh no we’re dying in our sleep / i can barely see you standing there in the corner in my dreams / mr general / mr general / oh no
